Scaling should expand theproduction system, not replace it.

A flexible supplier can make ten prototypes. When demand reaches 1,000 parts, that supplier may not have the capacity to follow. Manufacturing then starts again precisely when time matters most.

An order backlog proves demand. It does not create qualified output. If the supplier, process and capacity are still unresolved, customers wait while production qualification and ramp-up begin.
